Back to the beginnings

When I recently told a long-time Hungarian friend that I was moving back to Batthyany ut 18, she said "Now Mary Jill is REALLY back in Hungary" :-). Perhaps you can grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this post which became a little longer than usual..... Just to refresh your memories and for my new readers...I moved to Hungary (from Scotland)  in May 1997. Yes, almost 15 years ago. After a short stay in a B&B and a month of house-sitting, I went to look at this flat (apartment) in Budapest and moved in at the end of August. At that time, I did not realize what a great location, and opportunity God had arranged. I did see that it was an interesting villa style house with only 2 floors and a total of 6 apartments. My lease was for only 10 months as the Hungarian family was living in Bejing, China where the lady of the house was teaching Hungarian to Chinese University students!!  The flat was fully furnished, complete with books, lots of books, plants, pots & pans

Friends, ...meet some new friends

I was at an intercessory prayer meeting in Novemeber and at the end of the meeting this nice Hungarian man (Miklos) approached me and said "I remember you!" and invited me to dinner with he and his wife (Annamarie). I agreed and gave him my phone number, but truthfully, I didn't think I would hear from him again BUT.... he called and we had a great time together in December and again last week. There is always such joy when we are together, maybe because Annamaria and little Dori giggle so much or maybe because Dori and I LOVE bubbles and we are allowed to play with them in the house! After Dori's bath she goes right to sleep and then we get to pray together. God is good! Annamarie, Dori and Anna - 3 generations of beautiful women who love the Lord Dori loves her bubbles!! and her bath! Here with her daddy Miklos In November I attended for the first time a "Missionary Getaway" at a 4 star hotel right here in Budapest. It was a gr

A very busy 6 days with Apostle John Dean on his recent visit to Budapest.  One day went trained to Arad, Romania for lunch with a fellow missionary and a Pastor from Timisoara, Romania.  Romania has had a VERY hard, cold, snowy winter and the day after we left, all the roads into town were all closed again due to a heavy snowfall that began while we were there.  Pastor Covacs has asked me to be on an advisory team for his new International Church plant IGC.  The coming revival in Hungary will affect the 7 surrounding nations so on every one of John's visit's we are trying to visit another nation......looking for fires! Golden friends

Sandor and Bela  at Christmas Sometimes the foundations of " uncommon favor" are the guys behind the scenes - Meet researcher and Hungarian Ambassador, :-) and more than that - a friend of many years, Sandor Varga  who got on the phone and internet and found the right office for me to apply for my parking permit. He is also the guy who straightened out my gas bill and gas meter problem at the country house. He organized a new meter and a corrected bill is on the way!!  Besides all this, Sandor is watching over my ongoing project at Batthyany ut. More to come on that later. Sandor is married to long time friend, missionary of 20 years to Hungary, Patricia.  They head a ministry called "Harvest Generation". It is a  non-profit organization that reaches out to a generation of orphans bringing them a family, love, bible teachings, songs, arts & crafts in the name of Jesus. The Varga's have ministered at holidays, remembered birthdays and graduations and

Walking in Uncommon Favor!

Any of you living in a foreign country are probably well aware of  the bureaucracy of forms, waiting in lines, needing proper stamps, ribbons, and often witnesses to make any "official" changes or requests will understand this amazing statement..... this week I went to not one but two government offices in one day and completed my business in less than 20 minutes for each office. No waiting in line, no leaving the building to pay the charge, and incredibly..... left with the newly corrected document in my hand! Office number 1, a precious new friend named Anna met me at the front door and escorted me to her office. She then updated my address on my car papers.  With that in hand I traveled across town to office #2 to apply for an annual parking permit for the first district of Budapest.  Upon entry the doorman understood my request :-) (in Hungarian), took me into an office where an unusually cheerful young man worked.  He was so glad to see that I was listed in the compute

Eastern-European Mission, Hungary report

Here is a report about winter in Hungary written by the Mission Organization I work with for many years. I am on the Board of Directors of  "Kelet-Europa Misszio" - "Eastern- European Mission, Hungary". (A number of you have even attended our summer "Barnabas Camps".) I know many of you are aware of the harsh conditions in Europe this winter. Here is an up-close look.  Your faithful prayers and support helps me be able to reach out beyond my borders to help others. Thank you!  Please note the affect our Mission is having in Serbia to the "nations". I will hopefully be making my first trip to Serbia in April. Take time to click on the links "Mission Center"  to view the building in Hungary and "Amaro Del" for update on the band, and "Pannon TV" report on the refugees in Serbia.
