How I love a road trip!! This weekend, I am heading out to Debrecen where I lived for 3 years. Debrecen (which is the 2nd or 3rd largest city in Hungary, it rivals Miskolc) is in the Eastern part of the country about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Budapest.I have been invited to speak on Sunday at the "Haz"/House Church (formerly called the International Church of Debrecen). The Lord had me on a 3 year assignment with this church when it was ICD and I have many fond memories of the work, the church, the city and the people. I am thrilled to return to see what the Lord has done and is doing. I will be staying with friend's and enjoying sweet fellowship which is an added blessing. Thanks for praying, as I deliver a Word, I believe is from the Lord for them at this phase of their church life.

I have such an expectation of what a year this will be!!2012 - A year of government, A year of establishmentA year filled with Grace to bring order into any area of our lives where there is dis-order.This January, I felt impressed to closet away with the Lord as much as I could to make sure the "first" month of the new year would line up in a right way with His will and giving Him the preeminence. I am re-establishing somethings as priorities and am spending time to consider what things are important to God and what things are good but will ultimately be only a distraction to His best for me.I am enjoying the time He has given me and I am enjoying tidying up those loose ends. We had wonderful services at ICB on Sunday, January 2 and 8th. On the 8th we had people in the overflow hall :-)of course, we were in the smaller meeting room but God continues to encourage us that He is doing a new thing in our midst and we will see new life and enjoy new growth this year.One of the unique things He showed us this Sunday was how He is well able to untangle the knotty areas of our lives. He not only illustrated it with my necklace, but also with another lady's necklace and a family's tree lights - all a tangled mess and suddenly - they were loosed, freed, untangled. One more illustration came that in Alaska before you could get to climb the mountain, you had to walk through the "tangles" of brush. You had to make it through. Any of you have entanglements you need loosed from or mountains to climb this year? Mountains you don't want to go around one more time. I believe God is giving us another opportunity to straighten some things out.I've thought of this often this week, when worry or anxiety has "tempted" me to get all tangled up in knots and I saw in the Gospels (Mt 13.22) when the seed was sown in the thorns it choked the seed and made it unfruitful. I do not want to be unfruitful in my life and I don't want to have an unfruitful, unproductive year.I have been encouraged that this year is a time for all the seed sown into our lives to produce a great harvest and fruit that will last through eternity. A time when we can call into harvest the seeds we have sown into others and into other fields. A time of our fields being ripe unto harvest. 2012 I have renewed hope and great expectations of all you will bring forth this year. May it bring us all into new maturity and alignment with His will. May we become more established, more grounded, more confident, more secure in His faithful, merciful care of us and may we be more like Him in image. May we be blessed to see in 2012 more of His kingdom on earth!

A Divine Pause

In the midst of a very busy season, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a missionary gathering. 230 missionaries from 27 countries gathered for a time of pampering, fellowship and relaxing at an event called Budapest GetAway. This event designed for rest and renewal is the vision of Mr Paul Cowell. His organization is called Christian Hospitality Network and this year he organized 5 GetAways in various parts of the world.His heart is to see missionaries refreshed and honored and blessed and blessed and blessed some more. All we had to do was apply for the program, show up and we were treated to 3 nights, 4 days at a 4 star hotel on Margitsziget Island in Budapest. We were treated to buffet breakfast and dinner, a beautiful room, full use of the spa, pools, mineral baths, sauna, steam room and exercise rooms and a massage of your choice all at cost to the missionary. There were also optional times of devotions, worship, evening meetings, a health seminar, a doctor's appointment, give-away's all in a beautiful setting!! Spending time with some veteran missionaries and meeting some that live nearby was a great blessing. Lot's to be thankful for! A special thanks to CHN and Christ Fellowship for sponsoring us!Meet Barbara & Buddy. Barb came to one of my meetings in Arad, Romania and invited the missionaries there to this special event.

And then a Divine appointment - friends of mine met these two ladies very unexpectedly and said to me, you must meet them! So, we met at the retreat and it was a Divine Appointment and it has a future!! Barbara is an American living in England, and Jean (on the right) is English. They thought they were in Budapest because of visa challenges BUT God really orchestrated their every step!!

In a "risky" move the youth pastor at the Reformed Church, Debrecen invited the Austrailian worshippers "Hillsong" to minister in Debrecen. What a wonderful time we had in that historic church!! Debrecen is considered by many to be the "spiritual" center of Hungary and in an unusual show of unity, pastor's from the "new" (not traditional) churches also helped in coordinating the event. Traditional, historic, new, Spirit-filled and evangelical churches were represented at the seminar and at the main worship event. We believe that as we ushered in the Presence of God together in Unity, God would again pour out a Spirit of revival in this great land!! Indeed, many responded to a call of salvation. God is Alive and on the move!!

This report just in from the mission organization Eastern European Outreach. I have been on the Board of Directors of this mission for many years and have been able with your help, to be both an encouragement and a supporter of numerous projects. Helping these particular friends is close to my heart. Please enjoy this great report of their ministry for 2011.

THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS
Amaro Del had a truly busy year: they gave a lot of concerts (twenty-nine in total!), draw huge audiences and gained lots of great experiences. Which ones were the most memorable moments for them? Which event made the biggest impact on them? These are some questions we discussed with some of the band members.

The best description for Amaro Del’s 2011 is ‘busy’. They’ve been to numerous places, within and outside of Hungary. It’s not an easy task to choose the best moments from the season, from the many experiences and performances held in many different denominations up to the This Is The Day Festival which was the last gig this year. Ruszlan Jankovszki, Sandor Tejfel and Tibor Virag unanimously said that among the many venues, the visit to the prison in Vac (not far from Budapest) was the most memorable one. Sandor says that the most surprising thing about the ‘prison concert’ was to experience that the people living inside seemed to be more free than those outside the walls. Several inmates became Christian and formed a church whose leader is Aunty Margit, a Reformed Pastor who visits them several times a week. The band reported about the unusual event when the inmates, one after the other, stood up and testified of God’s love and goodness. In Dombovar the guys proclaimed the gospel as part of a street outreach and a new Gypsy church was started from the new Christians there. Ruszlan emphasised that this year Amaro Del mostly served towards non-Roma Hungarians. Once they played at a village fair where people were drinking beer and wine, eating good foods and the music was only supposed to provide a background to all this. However, as people started listening to the lyrics of the songs, they were surprised and started paying more attention: they have never experienced before that Rome people would sing songs praising God. At another concert someone came up to the guys afterwards and admitted that he was thinking about suicide but by the end of the outreach decided not to go through with it.

The lead singer Tibor Virag said that for him the This Is The Day Festival in Budapest was a great experience: it is a rare experience to praise God in unison with so many people. He also fondly remembers their performance at the Calvary Chapel in Budapest. “I felt God’s power filling me, sometimes so strong that I almost fell face down on the stage. But I didn’t want to stop singing so I restrained myself” says Tibor and adds that several in the audience were crying and singing praise songs on their knees. There’s also an interesting experience connected to the concert at Calvary Chapel. Tibor told us that while he was struggling with difficulties in his personal life last year and almost gave up his faith, someone contacted him over the internet and told him what a great impact the ministry of Amaro Del had on his life. The person told him that it wasn’t as a result of any preaching but purely listening to their songs that he decided to become a Christian and look for a church. This is how he got to Calvary Chapel where he was able to meet the band face to face. This had a powerful impact on Tibor’s personal faith and helped him get through the deep valleys. (It’s interesting to note that this same year there was a similar case where someone started going to church and became a Christian upon listening to one of the albums of Amaro Del).
It’s difficult to summarise all the experiences from this year in just a few sentences. It’s certain though that God’s blessing and love was felt continuously throughout the performances and it touched the guys as well as the audiences everywhere. Way to go, guys and praise be to God!

Let’s pray for the ministry of Amaro Del, that their mission towards the Roma and Hungarians would be able to continue in 2012. Let’s pray for those who were able to hear the gospel in prisons, on the streets, on squares or in churches – that the seeds sown would develop roots and bring good fruit!

Because of a divine appointment in Romania this spring, I had the honor of meeting a man of God called John Dean. John was looking for people connected to/in Budapest and our meeting was certainly not by chance. God has shown John what an important city Budapest is in the Spirit. You can read his report on Budapest in his spring newsletter. John returned this month for ten days and I had the privilege of introducing him to some friends and also to our church. We believe this to be a strengthening, ongoing relationship orchestrated by the Spirit of God to prepare for a great revival in Hungary, Europe and beyond.
His encouraging Word and experience of being "translated" to streets in Budapest and God revealing the "portal" city Budapest is has been received like fresh, sweet water to the parched and nearly fallen. Be not weary in well doing... for in due season!!!! Please join us all in prayer and fresh hope for Budapest, it's 7 nations that surround and all of Europe.

We also went into Slovakia to pray - that was unexpectedly electrifying, met with worship leaders, pastors, prayed at the Budapest Prayer Tower and more. Watch for more exciting new developments!!

Recent trip to Romania - Widow's Mite

Missionary friends of mine in Romania started a program a number of years ago called " The Widow's Mite". Every month they deliver groceries including canned meat, eggs, oil, fruits and vegetables, cleaning supplies and candy to needy widows in and around Arad, Romania. The program also supplies wood for burning in their stoves. This year the need is becoming greater and greater. Today, the program is run by veteran missionary Jackie Ramsey. She and her small team work very hard for at least 4-6 days a month just to prepare and deliver for this ministry. Because of your support of me, I was able to go to Romania in October (when Jackie was away) and help with the packing, sorting and distribution. We were also able to leave some extra money to help one widow pay some utility bills. If you would like to sponsor a widow, the groceries alone cost about $35 a month. Let me know if you can help one time for Christmas or monthly and I can send you details of how to do that. This winter is fore-casted to be unusually cold so any help you could give for wood would be a blessing! The more monthly support Jackie has the more widows can be helped. Right now there is a list of those waiting for sponsors. Of course, our prayers are important for this ministry, too.

Shoes along the Danube

My first visit to a memorial on the banks of the Danube. Called "Shoes along the Danube" it commemorates the WWII atrocities of 1944-1945 and honors the Jewish men, women and children who were lined up, told to remove their shoes and then were shot by a brigade of Facsist Arrow Cross militiamen and thrown into the Danube River. The shoes were valued as of more worth than their lives. God, help us to value what you value and help us to always choose life!!

Meet my Texan friend, Paulette Carson. We just spent a week together in Romania. She has a wonderful ministry to train women to lead Beth Moore Bible studies. She also raises the financing to translate the materials, comes in does a conference and blesses the local ladies with leader guides and 10-15 studies all at no expense to the local Romanian ladies.

Paulette and I originally met in Arad, Romania when she ministered at one of our ladies's meetings. She has since opened the door to me to Moldova. We were supposed to be there in October but it has been postponed for now. Instead, we traveled to Timisoara and Arad to see friends, meet her publisher and relocate her materials to a new facility. We had a wonderful time together and we look forward to the time the Lord say's Moldova is good to go.

This is the 11th year for "Ez az a nap" "This is the Day" which started out as a gathering of Christians, a Christian March, add music and by this year a major event in a major stadium. I can not even guess how many thousands of people were at this year's event. I do know they came from all over the country to attend. Mission Expo is a time for the Christian foundations/charities to gather together and advertise their "mission".

I was given tickets and had a great seat for the event. I am so thankful. I also met many friends I had not seen in a long time. That was such a treat!

Jesus Culture is on a European tour and said they are seeing young people raising up and believe God is going to use them to "Awaken" Europe to the Lord. Amen and Amen!!

Last fall I had a french drain built around the old country house to redirect the water away from the walls.

This year the walls were dried out enough (Thank you Lord!) that they could be renewed - for now the living room which was the worst was redone and the outside walls. Now it looks so nice!

Beauty for Ashes Bible Study

I am really rejoicing in the afterglow of the fellowship of the ladies and of the Spirit in my recent 3 week Bible study called "Beauty for Ashes" based on Psa 61. It is a study on the healing of emotions and I had 12 wonderful ladies attending. We did 3 sessions this month and will do 4 more in November and will including healing from the spirit of rejection. All the ladies are Hungarian and are precious to the Lord and to me!! One night I gave as optional homework to create your crown of beauty. We got some great entries but only one photo. Thanks Agi.

Hungarian Postal Service & loving life in the village!

One of the previously, most consistently frustrating agencies to deal with in Hungary was the postal service. In Hungary, the postal service is an intricate part of your life. All bills need to be paid there, any official paperwork requires stamps bought there, picking up packages is one of the most frustrating things. That would usually require the special notice you found in your mail box, then going to a specific window, at a specific post office that may or may not be in your neighborhood. Then there is waiting in line for a loooooong time and then being told you were at the wrong window (& usually not in a nice way!)- head over to the longer line! Let us not even discuss - customer service! And of course various windows are closed for certain times of day. (Usually unadvertised times) Add to this, if you needed to buy stamps, to pay a bill and to pick up a package - that would require standing in 2 different lines, maybe 3. On the plus side, you can pay bills, collect money, buy lotto tickets (I don't :-) put money on your phone, send a telegram, send a fax, buy stamps, magazines, recipe books and dvd's all under the same roof....but of course, in different lines!!

All of the above caused endless stress and pressure on me until - I repented of my attitude, stopped judging and began blessing the dear Hungarian Postal service and it's faithful workers. I immediately began to have much better times at the post office. Coincidentally, I also moved to a smaller city - Debrecen and now I am in a village where "posta" life could either be very, very good or very, very bad!

Thankfully, and I do thank God for this and I am thanking my delightful village post office,again and again and thinking of what I could do for them at Christmas time. Here are 2 recent examples of what happened. Last Friday, I received a notice of registered mail waiting for me at the posta. So I headed out to take a walk there about 3.30 knowing it was open until 4 or so I thought. I got to the office before 4 but it closes early on Friday. By the way - you can only pay bills until 3 and not between 12.30 - 1 as it is lunch time, I digress...the gate is still open and a posta worker is on the porch smoking a cigarette, the front door is already closed and barred. She asks if she can help me and I show her my notice. She finishes her smoke, enters the side door and returns in minutes with my mail and the form for me to sign. Praise God, I am doing a little happy dance, especially as I was leaving the village the next day and would not be back for a week, and by that time the letter would be sent back!!

Now this Friday, another postal worker comes to my door to tell me I have 2 packages from the Soviet Union waiting for me to pick up. (Yes, they all think I am a very interesting villager) The bundles were too big for his bicycle - yes our mail is delivered by post-ladies and men on bikes! Did I need my passport, do I owe any money? He doesn't know but takes out his cell phone, calls the office, answers no on both counts and says be sure to get there before 3!! :-)

I love my village posta!! Thank you God for healing me of "Posta fever" and blessing my life!!

We had a wonderful service last Sunday with new friends from Ohio, Pastor Wayne & Sherry Sanders. Wayne and Sherry came highly recommended by my good friends and ministry partners, Hope & Life, Uzhghrod, Ukraine. Sherry & Wayne have been traveling to the Ukraine twice a year since 2000 ministering often on marriage, family and relationships. They have an extraordinary testimony and are very down to earth and deeply care about people. They are in Ukraine this week doing a divorce recovery workshop and will be conducting a seminar for Hope & Life entitled "Is marriage relevant for today?" Many unchurched people are being invited and we are looking forward to fruitful results. We really enjoyed them and have invited them to return in the spring.

My angel neighbors in the countryside have hit a real hardspot and I would like to ask you to join us in prayer. Sandor just turned 64 and recently had a seizure. In 1998 he had a sport injury to the back of his head, which has caused a brain bleed, stroke and now seizures. All this time he has been working,with one increasingly weaker side, but is a delivery man using his own vehicle. Yesterday, his doctor told him his driving license will be revoked for one year because of the seizure. Of course, this is devastating news; economically, emotionally and mentally. Eva is a strong believer in God and is trusting He will provide and bless this difficult time, but we sure would like your prayers, too. Sandor is growing in His faith so please pray He runs to God in this situation. Thank you!

Say, Restore!!

In preparation of doing a newsletter, I reviewed my notes/blog/posts for this year. Earlier in the year God gave me a message based on Isa 42:22,23. You are robbed and plundered, snared in holes and imprisoned, as prey and plunder BECAUSE No one Said, RESTORE!! Added to that the wonderful promise in Joel 2.25 that God would restore the years the cankerworms had eaten. I believed that God was speaking and encouraging that as we (dared) to speak into things according to His Word and promise that in this season He would bring restoration. But how exactly can He do that?

Let me give you an example that I am "living and tasting" right now. Some years ago an Alaskan family moved to Hungary. There initial connect was with me. After some years their ministry connection became stronger with another ministry who were friends that I greatly admired and the family's primary responsibilities shifted but we all remained very close. In fact, with me they brought alive Psa 68.6 God sets the solitary in families, and we are that to each other. After 15 months away, the family returned to Hungary and I have been helping get them serttled again and on Sunday drove the kids home from church because mom & dad had to go to Romania for week-long ministry. I was only meant to take them home, because they are older now and didn't really need a "sitter", but......I decided to stay for the week.

The family was blessed I stayed, the kids, too and me! Where there is unity God commands a blessing :-).
So here I am puttering around the kitchen, doing laundry, helping the homeschooler, waiting for the other 2 to come home from school to tell me how their day went. As I enjoy the stories and am impressed with the big brother offering to help his younger sister learn a song for school play auditions and his other sister helps me figure out the stove.....it hits me. The joy, the pleasure of being a happy mother of children (again). Only the first time, I wasn't a stay at home mom and I was a bit envious of my dear friend who was waiting after school to hear my son's stories. That must be an area that needed a touch from the Lord because right here, right now, those years are being restored!! For me, I think that is how it happens - just by trying to follow Him, doing for family what family needs. And then, just when you least expect it - a God touch!! I am so grateful!! So, once again - I say, God - restore - even those places, especially to those places where I can not even verbalize or know what to ask for. God continue to restore!! Amen.

Prayer needed for Hungarian Churches

Mid-July the Hungarian Parliment passed a bill that is to go into effect in January 2012. This new law officially recognized only 14 existing churches as legal to operate in Hungary and continue to receive government subsidies, grants and the taxpayer's designated 1% that came from the government coffers to the church. The stated reason for the law was the economy and need to weed out church "businesses". If you were not on the very "short" list of recognized churches, and 344 were not you have the "opportunity" to re-register by December 31, 2011. If you do not you face losing not only your status as church but any assets including property. So, therefore you must re-register.

The governments stand is "We do believe in freedom of religion" - you just need to re-register.

OK, so to re-register as a "church" there are obviously some requirements. You must have 1,000 members (and furnish their names, address and official Hungarian ID number). You must have 20 years in operation and provide five years of financial paperwork. If you can meet that and others there is still one last hurdle. Your request for registration as a church would then be submitted to the Parliment to be voted on and you would need 2/3 vote of acceptance to be approved. Simple, right?

Of course, because the law was passed in the summer and because August 20 is a National holiday, most offices are closed much of August. So, no one knows where to get the re-register forms or where to apply and there is no one to answer your questions or e-mails.

If you do not have the 20 years or the 1,000 members you could register as a "Religious Association" but as yet, no one knows the requirements for that.

Does this affect our church? YES ....Our friend's churches in Budapest, Miskolc, Debrecen and Szeged - Yes. I believe the highest impact is on those "living churches" so-called "new churches" and independent churches that were established in the early 90's. On the approved list is only large denominations - Catholic, Reformed, Jewish, Orthodox and Faith Church.

This law is now being challenged and there is some hope it will be overturned by the European Union. Meanwhile, please be praying for Hungary and the life of the church. Thank you.

I am back in Budapest for my 3rd Sunday since the trip to New York. Since the end of January, I am the chief elder of the International Church of Budapest (ICB), serving with a team of co-leaders. I have a wonderful an International group of partners in ministry. The leaders are from Ghana, Hungary, England and the USA. Usually, August can bring a smaller number of people to church due to vacations but we have had some really good services with decent attendance. We are increasingly hopeful for the future of ICB.

Last Sunday, we welcomed back Jim, Tanya, David, Bethany and Jennifer Person after their 15 month sabbatical in U.S. &Alaska. Jim & Tanya first came to Hungary on a home-group mission trip to visit me. At the end of the visit God called them to minister in Hungary. Here David is leading worship for us.

Here we are praying for one of our young people, Selena after she gave her life to the Lord.

Glad to be preaching again. We have been doing a series on the Kingdom of God and the message was on the Family of God.

This was again a very International service as a worship team from YWAM lead worship. We all enjoyed a buffet lunch together afterwards. God's presence was just sweet as we worshipped, prayed and shared the Word and food together. Plans are underway for our churches to join together to do some prayer walking at strategic locations in the city. Please be praying for this.

My niece Kari got married on August 6 and the family was ready to celebrate a happy event!! Jack and Debby and Kari and Charlie had planned the ceremony for a lake-front restaurant, the bride would come in by boat and walk up the dock to an outside ceremony with reception following under a large tent. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate but nothing dampened our spirits!

The rest of July........a passing away

On July 26, I "suddenly and unexpectedly" arrived New York. On Wednesday 27th, I was at my mom's bedside. On Thursday she got the news that her beloved youngest grandchild was accepted at medical school (Congratulations, Ryan). That afternoon I prayed and sang over her... Reminding her of the golden streets, her new body, having no more tears and living forever in heaven with God and other loved ones.

On Friday, the 29th at 8.30 in the morning, we were called to her bedside. 5 siblings, their spouses and 2 of the 10 grandchildren gathered. (In a wonderful "God" arranged summer - all of the 6 siblings and 10 grandchildren and most of the 10 great grandchildren had been with her in July!!).

We all had a chance to affirm our love to her and release her, kiss her and gently hug her knowing we were saying our final goodbye's. A little time passed and we were sitting around her bed telling stories, laughing and making a "commotion" - How she loved that when we were all around her, her beloved, loud rambunctious kids! Around 10, we noticed one tear rolling down her face and then another. She didn't want to leave us but by 10.15 she peacefully slipped away.

On August 1, we had a memorial service for her and were overwhelmed by all the visitors, all the flowers, donations in her name, e-mails, cards, on-line guestbook and Facebook messages of condolence. A large extended community loved and honored her,( and us,)too.

I'll miss you mom, I love you and I will come to you in heaven!!

July - Now July really, really is summer, for Americans it starts out with a National holiday and a time of serious celebration of the red, white and blue and BBQ's. How I miss sparklers and fireworks in July.

But I am in Hungary where there is no lack of sparklers and fireworks just at different times of year!! So I enjoy sparklers at Christmas time when they are put on Christmas trees and New Year's eve as well. And I enjoy many firework displays in Hungary but the best is the August 20th celebration of the birth of the Hungarian
nation and St Istvan's Birthday. That is celebrated with an air show over the Danube and with planes flown under the bridges and in the evening a majestic display of fireworks from the riverside, bridges and barges in the river.

I also love July because my birthday is on the 11th and this year I received so many greetings. They arrived via face-book, e-mails, text messages, snail-mail and even in person!! :-). From people as close as the neighbors, as near as a dear family who came to my home on the day to celebrate and with birthday blessings from as far a field as Alaska, New Zealand, Australia, and China! I love the technology of the 21st century in that way.

I also love July because my first grandson, Bryce was born in July, today the 19th. His birth, actually his conception, was a prophetic promise from God. My son, Michael, Bryce's dad was born with a dislocated hip. Over many years, the first 13 in particular, he many procedures, operations, therapies and countless hundreds of x-rays in the groin area. By the time he was 13, a doctor told us the likelihood of him having children was very slim. By then we were born-again, Bible believing Christians trusting God for a complete healing of his hip. Years passed and professional medical people always remarked that he should have been in LOTS more pain and discomfort than he was and we knew and saw God's grace at work and thank HIM for the complete healing that was accomplished 13 years ago when Michael had a total hip replacement. Michael testified that the Doctor's hands and wisdom were the miracle he needed and God's provision. He also always says - he felt "born again" again after that!! But I digress.

While on the mission field in Scotland in 1995 the Lord impressed upon me that "Abraham's blessing are yours". Wow, I began to study up - what were Abraham's blessings? Land, sheep, goats, revelation of God, meetings with God, yes but then it hit me..."The Seed", "The Seed", a son, a promise of descendants! YEAH GOD. What a revelation that was so I set myself to contend in pray and fasting even it it took months!! How kind God was when in a matter of days the phone rang...."Mom, Raelene and I are having an argument that only you can settle!" (Wow, this couple LOVED each other, are truly soul mates and BEST friends and such an example to me!!) I gulped, straightened my shoulders, adjusted my counseling "hat" and said, Yes, what is the disagreement?

"Well, Raelene, thinks you'll want to be called granny but I think you'll want to be called gramma"!!! How I cried and laughed and jumped for joy!! How wonderful the workings of God!! The revelation of "Seed", the "Seed" itself did not need to be "contended" for, it just needed to be believed and received!! Their first baby was already due!! and 2 more quickly followed!! Praise God from whom ALL and multiple blessings flow!! In fact, 3 babies in 28 months!! Go God!! (and Michael & Raelene) You make me proud, in the best way!! Happy Birthday, Bryce!!

Abraham's blessings are mine!!! Abraham's blessings are yours,too if you have believed and received Jesus as Lord of your life ALL provision, healing, restoration has already been secured and paid for!! Just believe and receive from His manifold blessings. Be encouraged today! It is already yours!!

And, in further "Ode" to July, my dad's birthday is July 31st and he would have been 98 this year! We miss you, Bits but I know you are so blessed being in heaven!

PS: the argument they had....they were both wrong.. I actually felt a little too young to be called Grammy (and then the Holy Spirit reminded me, Michael and I made my mom a grandma at even a younger age!)-
so I became simply "Jilly". By now and as I have matured :-) I sometimes am referred to as "Gramma Jilly" and even Gibly - (how knows?, teens!!). It is music to my ears!!

PPS: I have room for sheep here in the country......hmmm......

I am really blessed of the Lord to live in Hungary and travel to Ukraine and Romania so often. This October I also have been invited to minister for my first time in Moldova and I am so excited about that......but there is a price to pay in being here. I have become accustomed (maybe resigned) to missing the every day happenings of my son and his family although I do get to "see" and sense that life when I visit once or twice a year. Every once in awhile my trip coincides with an important event...but more often than not, I must wait to "view" from afar...... Here is a recent event in which I rejoice!!

Congratulations to Mikhaila on her 8th grade graduation from middle school. Now both she and Bryce are in high school. These "grands" are growing up so quickly!!!!....who keeps sprinkling "Miracle-Grow" on them?

Trip to Ukraine May 31 to June 4

Last week's short trip into Ukraine was filled with so many blessings!! Such great testimonies that I think I spent half of my time crying :-) with tears of happiness! Prayers answered, a marriage restored, a ministry helped, God's will confirmed and then more prayer and tears.

One of the highlights was speaking for the "New Testament" Church in Uzghorod. Pastor Volodya and his lovely wife Lila invited me to be the opening speaker for their 3 day 17th Anniversary Celebration. God faithfully gave me a Word for the church and we had a wonderful time together.

Hope and Life Ministry partners are all doing well and the English school is thriving. The school year ended with over 60 students attending. The beginners professional class opted to meet for an extra month and I was able to sit in one of their classes. I was actually astounded at their ability to read, write and more than that speak English. They could ask and answer questions. They have been serious students and their progress is amazing! Well done, Hope and Life teachers!! I also was able to be participate in the weekly Hope and Life day of prayer and fellowship. The fellowship is so sweet and the prayer time is always awsome!

Of course, no trip is complete without special time with the Uzghorod chapter of Certain Women. Many prayers are being answered, life's are being encouraged (including mine!) and God is attending to everyone's needs in amazing ways.

Since February, the icing on the cake in these trips for me is Jacob, my little Texan/Ukrainian "grandson". His parents refer to me as his Hungarian grandma. You might remember that Jacob was born in Hungary and he stayed with me for his first month. Well, he is growing so well! He is at that cooey-gooeylicious stage, giggling, reaching for toys, he's discovered his hands, loves to be talked to. He also LOVES music. His favorite song is "Jesus loves me, this I know". He is also a good sleeper. Going to bed by 9.30pm and usually sleeping until 6 or 7. He is putting on weight and height! Way to go Jacob. He also loves his stroller but....you got to keep them wheels a rollin'!

Lee Grady who is associated with Charisma Magazine was in Hungary this last week. I missed him because I was in Ukraine but he just released this very encouraging report on what he saw in Hungary. Please continue to pray for Hungary, God has certainly not passed us by. Indeed, He is in our midst!! Rejoice with us and rejoice that the International Church of Budapest will take it's place as a Spirit-filled church with a hunger and a thirst for the Presence of God!!

It has been a very busy month for our church here in Budapest! We have had the joy of a joint service with our friends at the Russian Church with Sasha from Moldova leading worship and Pastor Lubov speaking on the " Refining fire of God" ...and it was fiery! We enjoyed being together so much we are planning another joint service.

We had a service with our own faithful and blessed worshippers Patricia and Sandor and Ebenezer continued our series on the Holy Spirit.

Then missionary friend, Tammy ministered on "Being and Bringing His Faith Presence" followed by a time of equipping the leadership team with Tammy doing a great presentation on "Hot and Cold Climate Cultural Differences" which both informed and inspired.

The month was topped off with Chris & Roger ministering on "Marriage and Family" and it truly was a family day. Since it was "Children's Day" here in Hungary, we then prayed for our church children and gave them gifts, we prayed for Ebenezer who is traveling to Ghana (first time home in 22 years) to see his ailing mom, and at the end of the service we prayed a wedding blessing on our newly married Prosper and Kundi. After that we enjoyed a luncheon together with a beautiful wedding cake topped with chocolate covered strawberries. (Thank you Shirley) and thanks to our ICB photographer, Bela!

...for our families, for our nations....for all we pray about!

I have a television here in Hungary, but it is only for watching dvd's. I am able to catch up with USA news by intenet and sometimes even watch some TV programs but only after they are aired. This was a big week for US television....including the finale of American Idol and the last show of 25 years for Oprah. I have on occasion watched these shows and as I watched highlights of both finales I was encouraged by a number of things I saw and heard.

Not only did this season of American Idol have a number of wholesome singers, some contestants were God fearing, God believing, true believers that sang Gospel songs through the season and in the finale. Upon winning, the young, humble Scotty McCreery said "First, I want to thank the Lord!".
I truly believe a number of these contestants were like young Esther and Daniel's for such a time as this!!

Oprah's finale included, the Queen of soul, Aretha Franklin singing "Amazing Grace" and there was hardly a dry eye in the place!! In an online report and on a video, Aretha addressed Oprah saying: "Queen Oprah, as you leave the show and Chicago, Illinois, going West -Keep God in the plan. Go the distance with Him, and He will go the distance with you." !! The last performer sang the gospel song "Oh Happy Day" and Oprah's final words on camera from the stage to the audience were "To God be the Glory".

To God be the Glory, indeed!! These amazing platforms, watched and heard by millions, contained Words of truth, and hope and had people pointing to the Lord as the source. Was everything done, every philosophy heard, every song or performance to the glory of God ....NO! absolutely NOT! But I am reminded that in the midst of my life before Christ, while I was blind, dead to Him and deep in the miry clay, He was at work to shine His light in and draw me out and set me on the Rock because He saw the treasure in the midst of the dung heap!! And He is faithful, so faithful and so merciful to reach out to us.

Keep praying, keep believing, be encouraged to turn up the volume of prayers because Holy Spirit is still at work to reach the world and He can use anything and anyone in the process!! Be blessed!

May trip to Romania with team from Scotland

God is so good!! In March, Jackie and I were talking about who to ask to speak in May. As my heart turned to the Lord with the question, He dropped the name of my good friend Beth Soper in my heart. I had spent my first 5 years on the mission field as admin assistant to Beth and her husband LaVere but for the last few years Beth had not been traveling. It turns out 2 days before my call to Beth, the Holy Spirit had been "stirring" her up and encouraging her to travel and minister again. She said, "Ok, Lord but if this is you, please have someone call and ask me for a specific assignment!! Imagine "our" surprise and delight!! It turns out, it had been 7 years since Beth had ministered in another country and what a GREAT Word she brought where ever she ministered. Plus, we got to stay together and catch up on all our life happenings since we had last seen each other. As soon as Beth said, Yes!! a team of wonderful Scottish friends joined and what a blessing that was!!

Beth's anointing, strength and joy was deep and long-lasting on this trip. We ministered in the village school on Friday eve, a City-wide meeting at a new location on Saturday and Sunday at the gypsy church in Vinga. Everyone loved Beth and the Scottish ladies who prayed, gave testimony and blessed all of us! It was a great trip!! We all look forward to the next time!!

I was so glad to be "home" with my son and his family for Easter. I won't go into all I was imagining :-). We did all get GREAT Easter baskets and in fact, I just finished my chocolate :-) Wasn't that self-controlled of me? After a wonderful service at the River Church in Poughkeepsie, we piled into the car yelling "Road Trip", plugged into our portable "media" and took off to Aunt Lori and Uncle Eddie's in Yonkers. They are such great hosts!! The Italian food was soooo good!! And it was great spending time with Raelene's family!

Diedre drove Alaskan visitors, Deb & Deloris and I up to Albany to shop and then I continued to J'town - this was a mini reunion for all of us and it was great fun!!

In Johnstown I got together with friends Jayne and Joan for lunch. Jayne also drove me back to Poughkeepsie

Jayne, MJ, Joan. These ladies helped me take care of mom and we all became really good friends.
They are both a huge blessing to me.

And this is the card group that no longer shuffles :-). We go back so many years and used to meet weekly for cards. Now we meet for mini reunions when I come to town - we eat and chat and chat some more. Clockwise from me, Sue, Peggy, Milly, Deb, Cheryl and Kathy. 4 of us graduated together, 2 graduated a year earlier and one is the baby of the group. Can you guess the baby??

Of course, one of the blessings of traveling back home is trying to see as many people as possible and trying to get quality time with them. In spite of being gone only 10 days and dividing myself between 2 cities, 2 hrs drive away from each other. I had wonderful opportunities with friends and family. Of course, some notable friends are missing like my special friends Marlow & Tonya. We did get time together, Almost a whole day with Tonya but sadly never took out the camera. I'll look for a photo of them.

I was asked to do a ladies meeting for the River Church in Poughkeepsie, NY on Easter Saturday. We had a wonderful brunch served by some of the gentlemen from the church. We then moved upstairs for a time of great worship and Word. God had sovereignly given me a message for these ladies based from scriptures in Isa 42.22,23 and Joel 2.25. The title was "Say, Restore". It was an encouraging word about the the very heart of the gospel message - "Restoration". Restoration of us in relationship to God, then each other and restoration to the position and destiny God has for each of us. When God restores it is not just to "as it was before" but abundantly, increasingly better than it was before! It was only in hindsight that I realized how amazing that Word is for this church as it's main sanctuary completely burned down 3 years before and they are still waiting for an insurance settlement. Meanwhile the congregation renovated the smoke & fire damaged youth auditorium and are now meeting there. We all were rejoicing in the hope God brought to "Say, Restore!!"

What an eventful time and truly ordained of the Lord!! Filled to the finish with time with family, friends, family, ministry and more friends and family!! And did I say ministry?

Upstate with mom. Great report as mom recognized me ("of course, why wouldn't I?") and called me by name and thanked me for her Easter gifts. She is well liked by the staff and I could see they really knew her and knew how to coax her to continue eating, as she has recently lost interest. It is a relief for all of us that she is in a safe place. I was with her for 2 days and then traveled back to Poughkeepsie to minister at the River Church and enjoy time with my son and family for Easter. Then headed north again to spend 3 days with her before returning to Poughkeepsie for a day before I flew back to Budapest. She was the sharpest and brightest and most coherent earlier in the day. We managed some sweet times together.

Missionary Friends needed to leave their trailer filled with humanitarian aid from Germany in a safe place. Last weekend they came and sorted through it, designating it for certain orphanages and families. We had a great time together doing this and that and just being together!!

Wonderful time of worship, pray and bible teaching with our countryside home group. My faithful angel neighbors brought a new person and we had an out of town guest,too. Our subject was "Following Jesus in water baptism" and I am delighted to say that 2 people were eager to do just that!! Watch this space for that big event - they prefer to do it when the lake water gets a bit warmer. :-)

The outreach of the English school is a great success and this semester has 60 students! Many are university students. I sat in on a lively conversational English class where we played a word game and watched a segment of a great movie on Martin Luther.

Trip to Ukraine, April 4 - April 8

I went into the Ukraine on a mission trip for the first time in 1992. By now I have many, many, many pages of stamps in my passport showing border crossings. Some years I have gone in monthly but this was my first visit since September of 2010. I hit the streets of Uzghorod running (metaphorically only :-) and had meetings, times of counseling, prayer times, coffees, meals, missionary catch up, meetings with the Hope & Life team, friends and those who are now like family. It is so interesting when you are on a God trip, despite the length of travel, the many appointments, and the late nights, I came home utterly blessed, encouraged and invigorated!! From all reports the Ukrainians feel the same - the wonderful 2 edged sword of God - good for me and good for them!! Ok, ok some were tired!! :-) And the laughs we had.....you know often on a mission trip there are those things that are only shared by the team. Sorry, but they were so funny!!

Renovation in Budapest

The Potato room renovation is restarted. Why is this space called the potato room? Because for years it was only used seasonally by the local government to sell potatoes and apples at a low price to retired and disabled folks.

For some time there has been a vision in place to use this space for meetings of small groups, office space with room for living and sleeping. It has taken some years to acquire the space, begin renovations and now continue with the renovations. This month windows and a new door were added and an old door and window refinished.

Because of the age of the building we had to refinish in keeping with the original - hence the brown metal door and yellow and green windows. At the end of the project, the lower outside facing of the building will be resurfaced.

Also windows were added where there had never been windows before. Each window has 3 positions. This week the "hole" the window looks into is being resurfaced and painted and the grates are being brushed and painted.

The International Church of Budapest had special guests on Sunday. Peter and Luba F and Pastor Michael from Mukachevo. Luba and Peter pastor a Russian Church in Budapest and we will have a joint meeting in our church in May. Luba brought me a beautiful bouquet of spring flowers and said the Lord had given a Word to go with them.."That it is a fresh, spring season for the church". Very encouraging!! ...well, back to plowing!

Most Hungarians are wearing their colors today and enjoying the day off and as a bonus it is a sunny warm day! Today commemorates a victory over the Hapsburgs in 1848. For many years the day was a time for political marches and gatherings but these days it is time off with the family. Banks, shops, grocery stores (even Tesco) are closed. I am going to a friends for a special Hungarian meal. Enjoy whatever you do today!

I really enjoy ministering at the Vinga Church and I have often encouraged them to get some music going on! as they usually sing acapella so this visit they invited an accordian player to do special music. By these photos, I am guessing it I enjoyed it more than these young ones :-)

I really enjoy going into Romania every 2 months to minister. Our main goal was to have Women's meetings and those are quite successful. God is faithful to bring the people and He always inspires the Word I bring. I also lend Jackie a hand with her Gypsy church in Vinga. This trip was extra special since we went into the school - where a Gospel message had never been preached before!! Then I always stay at Jackies house so we can have a good catch up and time with her girls and extended family. Jackie's house is always pretty busy with 2 grand-daughters, Elizabeth and Sarah, "son" Soni 22, 4 dogs, a hamster named Mitchie and the cat Nellie. Usually Nellie stays away as they all know I am allergic to her but....she comes in at night to sleep with Sarah and friends....

Jackie's neighbors Ioanci and Vio also help with the work and the house so they and their 16 month old son Richie are often present. Even with the 3 phones often ringing :-) we always have great and inspiring talks of church and ministry life. I am encouraging Jackie to come to Budapest soon for a few days as a bit of a break.

Saturday's meeting

What a wonderful time in the Lord here in Sofronea and Arad, Romania. It turns out the invitation to come to the school came from the deputy-director herself. Rodica, also tutors Jackie's grand daughters. She is a lovely, tall :-) woman and very open to the Lord. She was disappointed the classroom wasn't full so she invited us to come back in May. We are eager to return. These ladies were so open and interested in all we talked and taught about. I know the seeds sown went into good soil and we are praying for fruit that remains!

On Saturday we had a good turnout with new people coming because of the radio spots. We also had women return who have been at every meeting. This was our 6th meeting together. We always have a mix of women (and some men) from different churches and missions and ministries.

Tomorrow I minister at Jackie's gypsy church in the village of Vinga. Keep praying! Thank you.

A new door has opened for "Women for Women" and "Certain Women" in Arad, Romania. My friend Jackie lives in a village near Arad and is an amazing missionary while raising her 2 preteen granddaughters. Well, one of the girls has a tutor who teaches at the village school and she has become very interested in our ladies meetings. Since she has not been able to attend she now has invited us to do a meeting for the village ladies and has arranged for us to use the school after hours. So, I leave tomorrow morning from Budapest by train, Jackie picks me up at 2 and we head to the village to prepare for our meeting at school at 5pm. Our theme for the weekend is "The Garden of Our Hearts". We will be having a drawing and are giving out garden themed gifts. In addition, I have packets of flower seeds for every lady. Please, pray that hearts will be open and seeking.

This month we also advertised on the radio. Jackie heard one of the spots and said it was great. Just imagine, we got 5 spots of air-time for only $33!! Saturday at our main meeting in Arad, we will see what response we got. We will continue with our garden theme and again have great gifts for the drawing and seeds to sow for everyone! (Jackie,too). We also will have a good Word about sowing and reaping.

On Sunday, I will be the speaker at Jackie's gypsy church in another village, Vinga. I train home on Monday because I have another busy week back in the city. More news on that after the weekend. Blessings and thanks for praying!!

Since I have more and more responsibility in Budapest (and gas prices are nearly $8 a gallon) I have been praying about being in Budapest at least part time. Soon after a time of seeking God for His will in this matter, I was offered this flat! My departing missionary friends the Bixlers have left this "sweet nest" to be sold but in the meantime didn't want to leave it empty. It is fully furnished and has extra's I have never had before like satellite tv, air con in bedroom and a dryer!! The flat is small (27 sq mtr) but has a full gallery above with bedroom, office area, bathroom. It is in a superb location near Heroes Square with easy access to the M3 for travel to the country and all points east including the airport, minutes from the #1 metro to downtown, a 10 minute walk to the train station and even has on street parking for no fee. Today I head out for the weekend in Budapest and look forward to a 20 minute drive to church rather than an hour plus. God is good!!!!

Home group on Thursday was held at our new believer Magdi's house. She wanted her house to be blessed by us worshipping there. Her house is up the hill from me and we had a beautiful view from there. As we prayed for our village and county, I remembered a pastor friend visiting some years ago and we climbed to a high point over the village and prayed for revival. It seemed this day our prayers had been heard.

Ecc. 3.1 To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:

The season of change at home is new life and a new baby. He may only be with me for 3 weeks but already little Jacob is causing changes in all of us - our schedules, our activities, our sleeping and eating patterns. We delight to see him grow and respond to mom and dad. And the local body of Christ is ministering to us all with phone calls, visits, e-mails, facebook posts, advice, food, gifts and doing laundry! You are welcome into our family, baby boy.

The season of change at ICB

Otto and Sharon Bixler who have been in Hungary 18 years and have been called by God to return to America. All they know is that this seasonserving with Ellel Ministries and basing out of Hungary is over.
They know no details of the assignment ahead of them but this couple of Great Faith know and obey the Voice that calls them.

Otto and Sharon have also been part of the International Church of Budapest (ICB) for 18 years. They have been assistant pastors, home group leaders, teachers, mentors, counselors, confidants, elders, trustees, friends and mom and dad to all over these years. We are experiencing sadness, of course but that is mixed with great anticipation to see how God will lead, guide and provide for this next season of their future.

Of course, this change of season for them caused a change of season for us at ICB but I believe God has prepared us for this. And I believe God has really graced us to also anticipate great things for our future as an International Church in Budapest. At one time our church was "the only" International Church here, but now we feel our "niche" is as the only Spirit-filled English speaking church in Budapest. In addition, we feel like we have a heart and a grace for international/ cross cultural couples and families to feel at home with us.

Because of the upcoming leadership changes, I was asked a few months ago if I would consider being a trustee of the church to take Otto's place. That would automatically give me a place on the leadership team as an elder. I agreed since it was not just an administrative, official Hungarian legal position, (which it is) but it would also allow me to minister spiritually and speak into the life of the church. As I positioned my heart to seek God for this position He began to stir an excitement and even a passion for this new season and assignment. I am so blessed to be a part of a great company of faithful, wise and Spirit sensitive co-laborers on this leadership team. I have been further surprised by being named the chief elder of the church. I feel that God has given me a "mandate" to see ICB "Established" and "Moving Forward" . Last Sunday, January 30th we saw "established" Sandor & Patrica Varga as ICB's own worship team and Kafui Tse as Deacon, and Margaret and Selena Omoregbee prayed for to begin a ministry to children from toddler to 6 years old. At that service I was also voted in as Trustee and chief elder and we are being established and are moving forward!!

More exciting news will follow as we are believing God for an increase in the Presence of the Holy Spirit and for new growth. We would like to have new babies this spring at ICB, too.

My dear friends and ministry leaders of Hope & Life, Ukraine. Anya & Richard traveled to Hungary last week to wait for little Jacob to be born. He is a very international baby as his mom is Ukrainian, his dad is an American from Texas and he was born yesterday in Hungary. Anya had some special considerations which made having the birth in Hungary a much better option. She also has an American passport so it was easy for them to cross into Hungary. The new family will be moving in with me (YEAH!!!!) probably by the end of the week. Then all the paperwork needs to get resolved. It is also much easier to travel to the embassy in Budapest from here than if they had to travel to Kiev from Uzhghorod. Little Jacob will need his US passport to travel over the border with mom and dad. Please join us in prayer for a quick recovery for Anya and a strengthening for Jacob as he was born a little early and a little underweight. A friend here had a Word that Jacob would have a peaceful birth (and he did!) and be a messenger of peace. He is also, a very peaceful baby, in fact a little more interested in sleeping than eating so you could pray about that,too. Anya and Richard are almost overwhelmed with the care they are getting and the interest of people in their situation. And Jilly, grandma is looking forward to that little guy being here!!

February 4,5 Alpha Holy Spirit Retreat Hollókö, Hungary

Last Friday I traveled to Hollókö, Hungary to meet with my Hungarian friend. Nora. Nora is leading her second Alpha Course in her village. From there we traveled to another village for an overnight retreat. 10 ladies and some children attended. The Holy Spirit was so faithful to demonstrate Himself in our midst giving encouraging words as we prayed together, refilling some and baptizing some for the first time. It was a very precious time. If God lays it on your heart please be praying for these ladies. The 10 ladies were from 6 different villages in Nograd county (and me,too). In none of the villages are living churches but most of these ladies are "keys" to living prayer groups.

Nora has been working in one of the villages and is now in the process of setting up a small retreat center. After our weekend she took me there to pray. She and her husband were able to acquire a small "prayer" house, which was once a Baptist prayer house which is next to a home they own but don't live in this small village. On the other side of the prayer house is a home her sister in law bought. Their vision is for a prayer/retreat center. Nora meets weekly with 10-12 older women of the village to pray. I knew that their had been a revival in the village about 25-30 years previously but the prayer house had been boarded up for the last 20 years. So, I began to pray from Isa 26 about redigging the wells that the enemy had filled with dirt. What I didn't know until after was that the retreat center's name is "The 3 Wells" so Nora was very touched by how the Holy Spirit lead our prayers!! God is so good and faithful and all knowing. That He delights in sharing things with His children especially touched me on this weekend.

Pray,too for the village of Hollókö which means "Raven on the rock". In fact driving into town I saw a large monument which was a raven sitting on a rock! I mentioned to Nora that as the dove depicts the Holy Spirit, the raven depicts the enemy. I felt strongly it also was a picture of the principality and power now gripping that area. Nora knew very well the hardness of the land and many hearts there and told a story that this village is not under the authority of the mayor but rather a young woman they call a "witch". For the past 3 Easter's Nora and Thomas, her husband, have wanted to organize an evangelistic event for the village which sees 20,000 visitors who walk around in the quaint old village where they watch Easter eggs being decorated and the villagers wearing traditional and beautiful clothes. Their hearts have ached for these tourists who come at Easter but never hear the true meaning of the holiday. So, they got with "OM" Operation Mobilization and organized a concert, a program for children and an evangelistic service. The mayor was delighted and gave permission but....the witch stood against the program and would not allow the event to take place. Please be praying that the Lord makes a way where their seems to be no way!

Around 70 women and men gathered for our 5th "Women for Women" meeting in Arad, Romania last Saturday. We had a testimony from a young English girl who ministers to handicapped people in Romania and then I ministered on "Joy". A highlight was when one of the youngest attendees (almost 11) testified about seeing an angel standing guard at our meeting. She described how he looked (very large, shiny and with a sword) and what he said to her. "Do not be afraid."

On Sunday, I also spoke at the gypsy church in Vinga and 3 women came forward to be water baptized. It was a great weekend. Jackie is doing such a great work in a very difficult environment.

Celebration of Joy - Ministry theme for First Quarter of 2011

Getting ready to return to Arad, Romania to start this year's ladies meetings with missionary friend, Jackie R. I train out tomorrow arriving Arad around 8 pm. Jackie will meet and we will prepare for our meeting on Saturday at 5pm. We head out around 2 to set up the hall and get things arranges, welcome the worship team, talk with the translator, etc. We usually minister until 7.30. On Sunday, I will minister at Jackie's gypsy church in Vinga. That is always a treat for me. I must return on Monday as I have a full schedule in Budapest on Tuesday.

I was assigned the "Celebration of Joy" topic for ministry in Moldova in March and as I was working on it now, I decided to make it the theme of this quarter.

Joy is an interesting topic; We will be talking about the differences between joy and happiness; what robs us of joy; and how to cultivate the fullness of joy among other things as I minister in Romania and Moldova.

Speaking of joy - in our home group today, our newest lady arrived hungry and thirsty for more of the Lord. After some worship and Word and prayer time, she asked if she could be baptized in the Holy Spirit because she wanted to speak in tongues! She asked, God gave, she accepted and prayed in a new language!! We are so happy! She invited us all to her home for our February meeting and will be meeting my neighbor and myself for prayer next week. The Lord also spoke to us that we were His light for the village and that He had a healing fountain bubbling up here. We were encouraged to come together often and to be bold to pray for people. Then we found out there are 46 people in the village with cancer! We really prayed into all of this!

Prayer points for the fast as suggested by Hungarian Churches

21 day fast and prayer for the Hungarian Eclesia and Nation

Purpose is that God would cleanse his people, enpower them with love and power to give strong testimony about Jesus and that God would heal our land.

Week 1

(Jan 9-16)

Fast for personal life and family (prayer and water or juice fast for 1-3 or 7 days, then continue with a Daniel fast)

Effects on personal life: (Is. 58:6-14)

1. (6) breaks the yoke of sin over your life, makes you holy, sets you apart for God, you will recognize your hidden sins ans will want to get free of them

2. (8/b) (Mt 17:14-21) breaks the power of stubborn sicknesses, makes you healthy

3. (8. 10/b. 14.) (Jesus in the wilderness) prepares you for the anointing

4. (9. 10/b. 11) makes you accepting of the leading of the Spirit, (11) breaks the yoke of poverty over your life,

5. (12) leads you into the mainstream of God’s purposes for you, creates the right understanding of values

6. (8-10) you grow still and be attentive to God and those in need

7. (14) continuously renews you spiritually

8. (6. 8/b) gives you power over sexual sin and principalities, delivers you from demonic oppression

9. (6-7) will enable us to reach the lost with passion and love

10. (8/b. 12) you will recover extremely quickly from failures

Week 2

Jan 16-23

Fast for the Ecclesia, the Church

(prayer and continue with the juice fast or the Daniel fast)

1) That God would raise up workers for the harvest in the Church

2) May the young generation find their God intended place and service

3) May marriages be strengthened in love and relationships in crisis be restored

4) Local churches’ own prayer needs (should share among churches and at cross-church prayer meetings these can be prayed for)

Week 3

Jan 23-30.

Fast for the Nation of Hungary

(prayer and continue with the juice fast or the Daniel fast)

1) May God form in us mutual respect, honor and unity in the Church in Hungary according to Jesus’ prayer

2) May the power of poverty be broken both over the Hungarian Church and the nation

3) May the the Hungarian Church be strong and effective and have the effect of salt on its surrounding culture

4) May the new law about churches not hinder but help the cause of the Gospel in Hungary

On Sunday, January 30th the churches can have services together by city or region with the purpose of „Building the unity of the Hungarian Church so that God can command life and a blessing on us and that He would heal our land.

Many here in Hungary are called to a 21 day fast this January. Our International Church is joining with 44 Hungarian churches to fast from Jan 9 - 29 with a prayer celebration on Jan 30th. I had been feeling to do that myself and then heard from many other people, places, and churches in the USA that are being led to do the same. We are following the Hungarian Church's prayer points. The first week (Jan 9-15) praying for our individual concerns: Spiritual breakthroughs; family or health needs, and drawing closer to God.
The 2nd week (Jan 16-22) We are to pray for our church: Spiritual health and growth, sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, maturity and practical needs of the church. The 3rd week (Jan 23-29) Praying for the nation of Hungary, the churches of Hungary, and Europe that revival would come.

My dear friend, Jackie, missionary in Romania and her 2 granddaughters came to Budapest for their Christmas break. We all really enjoyed "The Chronicles of Narnia, Dawn Treaders". It was in 3D and a great adventure!

Because Jackie and I each received Christmas money designated as "personal - do something special", we were able to treat ourselves and the girls to 2 nights at the Ramada Aquaworld Resort in Budapest. What a break this was! Despite the crowds, we really enjoying all the water adventures and the indoor and outdoor pools. Breakfast and dinners were also included and the dinners especially were fabulous!

To Ed Courtney, my friend, fellow missionary, pastor and lover of Syble

I have had the pleasure and privilege of knowing Ed and Syble Courtney during the 7 years they were on the mission field in Hungary. At first I knew them in Budapest only as fellow missionaries, friends, worshippers and powerful people of prayer. But I was blessed to get to know them in a deeper way during the three or so years Ed was Pastor of the International Church in Debrecen, Hungary and I was one of his "sheep". I have been a Christian for 32 years and I have been blessed to have had a stellar list of "pastors" in my life but Ed was in gifting my first true pastor. And what a blessing that has been for my life. Ed had a way of seeing the gifts in people and working with them and the Holy Spirit to see those gifts released. He and Syble had open hearts, open homes, generous beyond their ability and actually extravagant lovers of God and others. No one was a stranger to them, no language a barrier for they loved in the universal language of Kingdom - offering everyone acceptance, prayers, advice,hugs, food especially brownies, laughs, listening ears, shoulders to cry on and then more prayers. Life with Ed and Syble was always an "Event". You didn't just live in their presence you thrived! How we have laughed, sang, eaten, how we have prayed and how we have wept but Oh how the Kingdom and people did come!! Ed's preaching is still a high standard to his sheep and his memory so precious.

I am sure you all will agree that Ed's life and Syble's because how can you mention the one without the other, are lives of a one flesh couple, best friends, soulmates and ministry partners - A loving example to all. They had a life together to be envied and attained.

Ed, we are all the better for having known you and especially blessed are those of us that you pastored!

Let the River of Life house today be filled with the tributes of a life poured out extravagantly for the love of Jesus so like the alabaster box that was broken and poured out on the feet of Jesus, Ed you ministered to His body, you will be missed but the precious fragrance will still fill the house!

Sticky kisses, giant hugs, and enough 'specially colored pictures and ink stamps of trains to wall paper the refrigerator!! I love visiting this family!!! The boys A & V are 4 1/2 yrs old and are in nursery school and their big sister S is 6 1/2 yrs old and in first grade. They are very happy, fun kids and a pleasure to be around - just like their mom and dad!!

We were sooooo impressed with Telki Hospital! Anya and the baby and Richard will be well taken care of mid-February when baby is due. Dad gets to stay the 4 days with mom and be part of the whole process. Midwives are available to train new mom's (and dad) and take care of baby when mom is tired. Mom, dad and baby have a private room and bath to themselves. Bonus and main reason they considered Telki - everyone speaks English. The hospital office also helps the new baby get registered as an American and get his passport and visa back to Ukraine. It is much more convenient to do all of this in Budapest.
We celebrated with dinner and shopping back at Ikea.

Do you remember in 2007 when I was in Nashville for "TheCall" and instead of crossing the country to California by bus, I was "kidnapped" to Iowa? Well, my dear "kidnapper" Luana came to Budapest for a visit. Since 2007, we have been blessed to see each other 2 different times in Iowa, once in Kansas City at IHOP and spent a week together in Israel this spring. What a blessing to have her and our friend Deb come for a visit.

Having all of the above squeezed into Jackie's 3 feet wide kitchen is fairly normal! Besides her mission activities to widows, orphans, and the least of the least, oh, and pastoring a church plus our meetings - life at home is very interesting. She is raising her 2 granddaughter's Elizabeth 12 and Sarah 11 plus her adopted son Soni is home. Soni's mother gave him to Jackie when he was 8. He stayed with her until 18 and then traveled and worked across Europe but now he is home! And much like the prodigal son, he also returned back to God as we all ministered to him over the weekend we were in Romania.

Richie and Vio and dad Jancsi live next door in one room. Jackie has been in Vio's life since she was a teenager. They help Jackie with her mission, the girls, yard etc so they spend a lot of time in her house, too. Jancsi asked us for prayer to be released from a alcohol addiction. We were able to minister to him with very hopeful results.
